October 23 - Homecoming "ROCK the Eighties" and 1980's Football Alumni Reunion Homecoming Schedule includes the parade at 10 a.m. through Main Street; Starting at 11:30 a.m., there will be an Alumni Picnic at the Stadium, Alumni Reunion Tailgates, Intercultural Programs BBQ and Kids' Skills Competition; Dedication of the Women's Soccer/Softball Complex at 12:30 p.m. Look for your invitation in the mail. Remember to get out those old 1980s clothing!

 

November 4-5 - President's Inauguration and Installation of Phi Kappa Phi Chapter
Two major events - the installation of Slippery Rock University into Phi Kappa Phi and the installation of Dr. Robert Smith as the University's 15th president - will take place over a two-day period. The academic honorary installation is set for Nov. 4 followed by the Nov. 5 inauguration of Dr. Smith. The inauguration of the president includes a special installation luncheon with anticipated attendance by the chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, members of the system's board of governors, SRU Council of Trustees, SRU Alumni Association, student delegates and representatives from colleges and universities around the world. The inauguration committee is meeting now to set specific times and events.

 

November 6 - Men's 90th Anniversary Basketball Alumni Reunion 

 

November 9 - "A Taste of the Arts"

The College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts is proud to present to the residents of Franklin and the surrounding communities areas a taste of the arts by highlighting the University's talented students. Please join us for a program that will include a one-act play, a dance recital and performances by the jazz band and chamber singers. Following the program you are invited to view a student art exhibition and meet students, faculty, alumni and the administration of SRU at a reception in the lobby. Food and beverages provided. Tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for students and those 65 or older. The event will be held at the beautifully restored Barrow Civic Theatre, 1223 Liberty Street, Franklin, at 7 p.m. To order tickets call 800-537-7769.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The dance department at Slippery Rock University will offer an 11-week series of Saturday dance classes focused on teaching, exploring and learning for children ages 3 to 12 beginning Sept. 11. Classes in creative dance for pre-kindergarten-age students will be held from 9:30 to 10 a.m. with a $50 tuition. Creative dance for kindergarten through first grade will be offered from 10:15 to 11 a.m., with tuition at $60; and those age 7 through 12 interested in tap and jazz dance styles will find a one-hour class begins at 12:15, with a $70 tuition. The day's final class, which opens at 1:30 p.m., is in intermediate tap and jazz and carries a $70 tuition. The program is non-competitive and will include an informal studio show (no costumes required) will be held for parents and friends at the end of the session.
